Summary: "Very Thorough Walkthrough - Highly Recommended"

The JumpStart guides are generally informative and well done, and the guide for the Canon VIXIA HV30 is no exception. I bought this video to come up to speed faster on the newer Canon VIXIA HV40 HD HDV Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom, which has a few additional options but is essentially identical to the HV30.

The video is logically laid out and covers the following subjects:
Chapter 1: The Tour - Covers the general features and functions (I found this very helpful)
Chapter 2: Menus, Menus, Menus - As the chapter title suggests, this is very complete walkthrough of the menu options and was most useful to me as examples of most options were shown as they were changed
Chapter 3: Taking Better Video - This is a very basic tutorial on how to shoot better video
Chapter 4: Audio For Video - Another tutorial focusing on audio options and includes examples of audio using various external microphones (actually fairly interesting)
Chapter 5: Post Production - This section deals with editing your video into a usable movie and is the weakest section of the video

There is also a section that covers accessories like tripods and filters, along with a major retailer's rebate coupons (in Adobe Acrobat format) for savings on various accessories discussed on the DVD. There are instructions in the video on how to find these on the disc.

Overall, this is a very good overview of the Canon VIXIA HV30 (and almost all of it applies to the HV40) and showed me things that I might never have stumbled upon on my own, like the many still camera options for example.

This DVD is well worth the price just for time it saved me hunting through the cumbersome Canon User Manual and allowing me to take full advantage of my camera's options.
